Hehe! Too funny!
This is a hilarious ad I saw in the Stablemates today (it reminded me of something Dad would say):

Confidence Course, here we come!
Thursday, 3-11-10. The 22nd of May is the HOOF Spring Fun Day Show at Lynda Bragg's farm in Blythe. The last event of the day is a confidence course class, or a type of obstacle course. Confidence is defined by dictionary.com as full trust; belief in the powers, trustworthiness, or reliability of a person or thing, and as assurance in oneself. That is what this course tests; you get points based on how well and calmly your horse allows you to navigate her through the course and also on how effectively you communicate with and handle your horse. The class requires patience, confidence and skill from the rider, and trust, courage and training on the part of the horse. I'm posting some of the obstacles that you might see us practicing throughout the Spring over at the farm. Yee-haw! Let the hilarity commence!
Also - if anyone has any big plastic barrels, large orange cones, pool noodles or old tires that they would like to donate or loan to the cause, please let us know!

Days Like This
Monday, 3-08-10. The weather said that it might hit 70 degrees today and with the sun out it is BEAUTIFUL! I'm thankful for the pretty day, but it does make me wish that I could go outside and play in it. Weather like this makes me long for frisbees and baseball gloves and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches eaten on fresh grass. Days like this make me think of our childhood spent clinging to horseback and drinking tangy water out of metal canteens while we trotted endlessly down uncharted deer paths. Days like this make me yearn to lie on my back on a trampoline and just bounce in the warm sun without hat or sunscreen. Don't you just love days like this?
Some of these are really neat...
Friday, 3-04-10. A HOOF friend posted this website on our group page and some of these helmet covers are extremely nifty (and WAY cheaper than at the tack shop in Grovetown)! The one in the picture, for example, is a pink fleece cover that is made to also keep your ears and neck warm. I wish I had snuggled one of these on during my after Christmas rides! They have helmet covers in any color and combination you can think of and they also do customized ones. They'll even embroider your name on both sides of a cover! This adds a bit of flair to the boring, but required for safety, helmet. I think I'm pining after this one!
Yay! My Bit Came!
Thursday, 3-04-10. Looks like it's to be a busy and exciting day! Tuesday, we ordered a traditional Peruvian bit and a traditional Gamarrilla (dropped metal nose-band) for Sassy to match what was being used on her before we got her. They came today! I'm so surprised and pleased! Raintree Tack did a fantastic job! The bit is a little more complicated and complex than we're used to, but I took a lot of pictures of the bridles at Rancho Loma Linda and think we can figure out how to get it all put together. I can't wait to try it on Sassy! (Update to come later with more pictures).
Sassy Says Hi!
Thursday, 3-04-10. Hi, from Sassy! She says, "Thank you," for all the nice thoughts and congratulations for getting a comfy new home. We're working on her learning to trust us as her new people and on making friends. She's also getting used to being touched while eating and having us move around her while she is eating. She's very possessive of her food! She's also getting used to being brushed while she's standing around in the paddock munching. A lot of fun, friendly things that happen on the farm... She has a very sweet nature and seems to be patient and willing, but is wary, as horses in new places often are. We're working to put a little bit of weight and condition on her and are starting very slowly. I'll ride her for a half hour both days this weekend and slowly work up to 3 hours over the next 8 weeks. Thankfully, the time changes soon so we have longer evenings for rides. I want Sassy to develop good back muscles to be able to carry my weight comfortably on a longish type trail ride. Also, this is good conditioning for me, and I think we all agree that I can use more of it! Looking forward to rides with friends and family this Spring and to getting our obstacle course put together so that we can practice for the HOOF Spring Fun Day! The invitation is open is anyone wants to come and try it once we get it all up. Hope you're having a wonderful week!
Surprise, Surprise...
Tuesday, 3-02-10. Guess what? No, you can't guess, can you? I'll tell you! It's raining again! Yep, sure is. It amazes me that we could have such a Spring type weekend and then plummet back into wet, icky, gooey mud. I'm happy that the lake will be up this year for prime swimming, and also that it doesn't seem to be raining every weekend now, but goodness! Mom says that she needs a yellow rain hat and I'm going to try to find her one. She can be the Mom in the Yellow Hat (instead of the Man in the Yellow Hat from the Curious George books). Function definitely takes preference over form during a wet, frigid and unexpected winter in Middle Georgia!
Fun Down On The Farm!
Saturday, 2-27-10. Mom and I spent the morning cleaning out the stalls and raking the paddock and Dad and Jason picked up limbs while Otis ran around and played with the donkeys. It was a gorgeous, sunny day and we couldn't have asked for better! Then, after lunch, Uncle Steve, Aunt Karen, Megan, Rosie, Aimee, Grammy & Papa Gay, Tracy and her two nephews, Aunt Sherrell, and Uncle Tony all showed up! Bill was a sweetheart and trotted around forever doing pony rides for Tracy's nephews and Rosie and Aimee. Tracy took some great shots with her uber-mega-awesome new camera and Mom and I got a few, too. Hopefully, by the next time this happens we'll have our fire pit finished so we can warm up a little bit; the wind was definitely crisp!
You Saw It Here First!
This is grass, people! Sure-fire, dyed in the wool GRASS! The end of February and we have spotted green real grass in Grammy and Papa's yard. I just had to share!
Sassy Comes Home!
Today, 2-26-10, Sassy came home! Sandra and Dad were kind enough to offer me the day off from work today and Josh went in to work to cover for me even though he wasn't feeling too hot. Thanks, ya'll! Dad and Mom went down to Cochran with me and Dad pulled the trailer since I'm not too comfy with the idea yet. Wouldn't you know it, though, that I couldn't manage a single decent picture of either of them? Too single minded today, I guess! Anywho, Angel and Andrea were the heart of kindness and I know they'll miss having her gone, but I promise she'll have a wonderful home here! Thanks to ya'll also! She's already settling in very well and I'll post more and better pictures, too! Yay for me!
