Bill (Style Dancer)
2010: Those of you who know Bill know that he's had a hard life, and finally, even after a year and a half of pampering and rehabilitation - it's starting to show. This wonderfully sweet Thoroughbred gelding came to us in very poor condition and was my first horse in nearly ten years of horselessness. We have enjoyed having him and have been happy to be able to offer him a time of comfort after his years as a race horse, a show horse, and then as a neglected pasture pet. The hard life has caught up to him, however, and it is with great love in our hearts that we have retired this aging gentleman. He has gone to the farm of a neighbor to be a companion for their lonely little lady and for maybe a bit of light riding when the weather allows.
Edit: 6-23-12: As it turns out, Bill's retirement home did not give him the kind and caring position for which we hoped. He has come back to us here at the farm in a terrible state of neglect and even decay. We have a long, hard road ahead of us to try to help Bill recover - but we will travel this road together because we love him and we don't plan to take a chance on his health with anyone else in the future.
Edit: 3-25-13: Bill is finally beginning to show some real improvement - both in body condition and in spirit. He's bouncing more and playing some in the pasture and is filling in along his top line, although his ribs and hips still show. We are optimistically hopeful at this point.
Edit: 8-30-13: We lost our Bill today, our wonderful 20 year old OTTB. He just couldn't fight off the repercussions from the hard times in his life. We are thankful that he has had a peaceful last year and a half and that he has been content and happy with his goat friends. Goodbye, Bill - you will be missed.
