A lot went on last weekend and this past week, and it's just too much to talk all about at one time without typing my fingers off! :) We got three of our fainting goats home and settled in (Three, Mike & Ike), and got Nibbles and Pancakes settled in the pen with them. Also, we took in a rescue horse - Sully. He's a registered Arabian and very sweet and pretty. He's a bit spirited though, as Uncle Steve found when he put in a test ride, but we have high hopes. Sunday evening we had a small family get together and everyone came to meet the goats. Lots and lots going on! Your best bet to try to keep up is to look at the pictures. -grin- A day in the life of a "farmer" is no small entertainment!

This is an email that Uncle Steve sent yesterday evening to several of us about his experience with our new guy, Joshua's Sullivan, on Sunday morning. I'd like to pass it on as there is some amusing content. Please note: discretion is advised and spelling has not been edited! :)
We brought home the boy fainting goats on Thursday, 5-20-10. We had to drive all the way almost to North Carolina to get them, but it was a wonderful day for traveling and we had a great time listening to music. We were able to stop by and visit the girls, who won't be weaned for another month, before we headed to pick up the other three. We were amazed at how well they behaved, although dad turned up the music loud to listen to "Blue Moon" and Three fainted dead away!!! He toppled over against the side of the cage! These guys are FUNNY! We spent yesterday evening cleaning up the old goat pen and working on finishing up the new one to get ready for the three guys that are coming home tomorrow. This included a lot of zooming around on Grammy & Papa's golf truck and Pancakes thought he should be able to ride, too! He had the greatest time riding around with Dad and Josh and didn't budge at all from the middle until Dad stopped for me to snap a picture! Then he wanted to come and cuddle with Mommy. It would be impossible not to love this bouncy guy... We had a great time this weekend on the farm! We started out pretty early on Saturday morning and got ready for a trail ride for Aimee Gay's 12th birthday; It was her special request. We don't have quite enough horses yet, so Uncle Steve rode double with her on Bill. Rosie rode Chili, and I had Sassy. Sassy was a little barn sour in the beginning, but followed right out as soon as Chili headed across the yard. Something for us to work on, for sure! We headed off down to White Oak Ranch where the Wiersmas have graciously given permission for us to ride. Thanks, ya'll! Your place is wonderful!
We rode for a little over 2 hours, which is plenty enough for our out of shape horses (not to mention our out of shape selves). The land is beautiful and green with early summer and it was a very relaxing ride. I'm thrilled to be "on the road again." Poor Uncle Steve and Aimee were on slow Bill, though, and had to eat Peruvian dust for most of the way! While we trucked away on the trails, a good old fashioned jaw-gab was going on back at the farm. Papa and Grammy Gay, Granny Morgan, and Uncle Richard joined Mom and Dad under the trees and were all still there when we got back. I think the headline would read, "Good Time Had By All." Can't wait to do it again! So much going on in the last few days, but my camera got dropped so we're working mostly with our phones to get shots to post until I can get up and running again. These were taken with Mom's camera, but it's got a bad case of old age and the shakes, so sorry about the blurriness! We took pictures of the chickens and of Nibbles, too, but they were all too incredibly fuzzy to post. More to come soon, I promise! On a good note, Sassy and I got in a nice little ride. She's aptly named, but we're learning to work together a little more each time. :) |
