New ladies came to the Farm yesterday! See more about them on the Fainting Goats & Co. page!!! We are very excited to have more does for our breeding program that are from different bloodlines!

These two 7 week old sisters are our new Great Pyrenees Livestock Guardian Dogs. Intimidating, aren't they? Grrrrrrrrr! Sure, they're cute balls of fuzz right now, but they'll grow into huge and fuzzy monsters in no time flat - we hope. They're starting out in a kennel inside the goat pen with their own dog house and we are turning them out several times a day with the goats while we can supervise. As time goes on and they begin to mature a little bit and have learned some manners (don't chase the babies), they will make their homes permanently free in the goat pens to protect their family - our fainters. After a friend of a friend recently lost most of her 2011 kids to a coyote attack, we decided that an ounce (or 80 pounds or so) of prevention would be worth the cost of dog food and some space in our hearts. We're still thinking of names for these fuzzy heart-thieves and will update when we've made a decision! Uncle Steve and Aimee came out on Saturday morning and brought Sally and Pie for a ride. It was a gorgeous morning and the horses looked great! Things started out really nice, but Toby had other plans and got REALLY "spunky" coming around the back side of one of White Oak's pretty ponds. I ended up walking back part way and golf carting the rest of the way. Back to the round pen for us! I think he is in love with Sally and just can't bear for her to get out of sight for a minute. :) Back to the drawing board! Still, it was a nice time and great to see Pie and Sally looking so shiny and well-cared-for. It's awesome to know that they fit so well with Aimee and Uncle Steve! Saturday morning was very pretty and my friend (and HOOF founder), Diane Caruso, brought her horse Hawk over from Blythe for a ride. It was Toby's first time out in over a month and he was a total sweetheart. Seems like my dreams of having a wonderful horse to ride in the fall are coming true. YES, I'm praying that it continues! Diane and Hawk are the kind of laid back team that are a joy to ride with. Here's to many more happy trails and cooler weather! Mom is da' man! We needed to get the large hay ring from the paddock at one end of the farm to the upper pasture at the other end of the farm where the horses are. She had the brilliant idea to try to roll it instead of taking it apart, loading it into the truck, and driving it over. It worked!!! Poor Chili and Chispa didn't know WHAT that was coming at them across the yard! Big guy Toby just kept right on munching his breakfast. :) We now have 193 bales of hay stored for the winter thanks in large part to the hard work of Josh, Jason, and Dustin. Also, thanks to the generosity of Mr. Wayne Adams for letting us buy his entire cutting of hay this go-round. Woo-hoo! Now only a little more to go to get the entire hay barn full! What came first - the chicken or the egg?
Don't put all your eggs in one basket... Never count your chickens before they're hatched... Hey, ya'll. If you know anyone that is looking for a dog, we are trying to find a home for Otis. He wandered up a while back at my brother's place and we've been keeping him in the backyard, but we're not home enough to really spend the time with him that he needs. All of our outdoor time is spent at the farm. He's about 2 years old and is kind of medium sized. VERY friendly and sweet and playful. Bouncy-ish and a CHAMPION fetcher. He would be great with a family with older kids. He's healthy and everything, just lonely. We've not had him fixed yet because he's in our backyard without access to any females, but if that is an issue with someone taking him I can pay for Dr. Gradous to fix him. He's never been an inside dog and so is not house-broken, but he has never dug out of the yard so I know he's be a good backyard dog. If anyone is interested, just let me know. :) Candi Well, the time has come... Uncle Steve has found a place in Augusta or Evans where they can keep Sally and Pie that is near to their house so that he and Aimee can see them and take care of them every day rather than having us care for them and only seeing them once a week. I think it will be great for them and for the horses, but we'll miss having them around! |
